Gordon's Bay Business Directory
The Town of Gordon’s Bay is named after Robert Jacob Gordon, a Scottish soldier in the Dutch defence force. He discovered the Town in 1773 whilst undertaking a botanical expedition to the area. The huge sign with anchor that can be seen on the southern slopes of the Steenbras Mountain are mistaken for the town initials. It however was the emblem of the General Botha SA Nautical Collage. Today it is the emblem of the SA Navel Collage situated at the old harbour.
